During the City Council Annual Planning Retreat in August of 2002, The City of Denton City Council developed a "Dream of Denton."
  • Denton is a city where people are proud to live.
  • Denton is considered the "place to be."
  • Denton maintains and continues to grow an economic base that supports the dream.
  • Denton improves its quality of life as it continues to grow.
  • Denton retains its small town values while continuing cutting edge growth and viability.
  • Denton is known for racial harmony: everyone belongs and people are respectful of
    differences.
  • Denton is a city where government works well and the majority of people do not feel
    isolated from the process.
  • Denton retains its distinctiveness.
  • Denton is a regional player, nationally renowned, and cutting edge.
  • Denton is known for outstanding infrastructure and an exemplary school system.
During the Annual Planning Retreat, Council reaffirmed their commitment to a Vision for Denton in the 21st Century:

To develop Denton as a safe, attractive community with strong neighborhoods, a unique identity, and a sense of historical pride.

To develop Denton as a leading entrepreneurial city that attracts high-tech, high-skill, high paying jobs.

To develop Denton as a community that promotes excellence in lifelong learning by providing education and training opportunities for all citizens.

To develop Denton as a center of diverse and accessible historical, cultural, and recreational opportunities.
